April 7, 2015 We have just learned that legislation which contains the We The People Maine initiative (calling for a Constitutional amendment to say that corporations are not people and money is not speech) will likely be brought to a hearing in Augusta on its own, without similar pieces of legislation as we had previously announced, and that we may have only 3 to 5 days advance notice of the scheduled time for this hearing. We need to prepare testimony now, and we ask you to consider joining us in preparing your own. This hearing will be a great opportunity to say publicly why it is so important to overturn the Citizens United decision that undermines our democracy. We would like to hear from those of you who would like to be part of this, so that we can quickly contact you as soon as we have the details of committee assignment, document number, and public hearing date. Anyone who isn't able to go to the hearing to speak can submit written testimony, but there will likely be a quick cut-off time for this to be submitted. Please reply to this email or otherwise contact one of us to let us know of your intention to speak or write in support of We The People Maine, and we will be in touch with you directly with more information when we have it.
